Supporting Trainees

The year begins with an induction program for the youth workers and Local Support Groups from all four areas. This is followed by induction into the practices and expectations of the Community College where new trainees shadow an Associate worker and meet the people they need to know, such as the School Liaison Officer for Connect and the school’s key people. Once a DBS check has been cleared by the school, the work can begin in earnest under the guidance of a Connect Line Manager and the LSG.

For further details on how to apply please go to swym.org.uk where you will also find specific information about available placements. If you would like more information about being a Connect trainee we will send a copy of our Handbook on request at: info@connectdevon.org

Through the Local Support Groups we commit to providing practical and personal support in this professional setting:

Practical support for trainees

  • Arranging funded accommodation including meals with a host family.
  • Holding regular supervisory meetings with a Line Manager and Local Support Group [LSG] to discuss and reflect upon your work, development and training.
  • Funding for SWYM training fees and travel expenses for work and training.

Spiritual support for trainees

  • Arranging a suitable Mentor .
  • Supporting the Trainee to find a local church.
  • Ensuring that the local Connect team and its work are regularly prayed for in LSG meetings and in the wider church community.

“Connect workers are invaluable in our classroom providing us with support both academically in RS lessons but also pastoral support around the school. We would highly recommend for any school to work with them!”
