Okehampton

Okehampton – one of our four Connect locations, is a beautiful and expanding town of some 6000 people found at the northern end of the Dartmoor National Park. Road links are excellent, with the A30 dual carriageway linking it to Exeter and the M5 (25 minutes drive) to the east and Cornwall to the west; we are also looking forward to the reopening of the railway line to Exeter! The beaches of north Cornwall are about 45 minutes away making the town a superb touring centre for hikers, rock climbers, cyclists and campers.

Outside of the stunning picturesque locations that surround Okehampton, the town itself provides a bustling high street with lots of independent shops, a local library, 5 churches and great places to have food and drink with your friends! Supermarkets include Waitrose, The Co-op and Lidl.

Okehampton College, with around 1,600 pupils is the largest school served by Connect and draws pupils from an area almost the size of Greater London. Some of the larger towns in this area include Hatherleigh (a small market town hosting a carnival and festival through the year), North Tawton (a tight-knit community with beautiful views and amazing walks), Chagford (an old tin mining centre now providing many exciting outdoor activities), and Winkleigh, a farming community on the way to north Devon.

If you are looking for a rural retreat with the joys of small-town life – Okehampton is the place for you!

“The value Connect brings to our school is immense. Support and space for students to ask the difficult questions and explore ideas around faith and life is greatly valued by students via lessons and clubs, support and input in our RE and Personal Development sessions is so helpful for staff and students alike and to have a presence in the school and get to know staff and students is really a blessing”.
