Chulmleigh

Chulmleigh is an historic hilltop market town situated roughly halfway between Exeter and Barnstaple, off the A377.  With a population of just over 1000 it is a friendly and popular location to live.  Chulmleigh has a primary and secondary school, medical centre, several churches, a range of shops including a deli, butchers and bakery, along with several sporting amenities including a golf club, gym, tennis courts and sports centre.

Chulmleigh is a vibrant and thriving community that has several clubs and societies to suit many interests, ranging from the arts, to history, to physical health.  There is also a weekly coffee morning held at the town hall in support of local charities; and a community café/prayer group run by the church.  Arguably one of the social highlights of the year is Chulmleigh Old Fair.  This takes place in mid-July and has been running since 1253.

Chulmleigh has a very successful secondary school called Chulmleigh College.  It is a relatively small school with around 600 pupils and has a music academy.  Many pupils travel in by coach from the surrounding network of small villages, hamlets and farms, that cover the area of a large city.

“The value Connect brings to our school is immense. Support and space for students to ask the difficult questions and explore ideas around faith and life is greatly valued by students via lessons and clubs, support and input in our RE and Personal Development sessions is so helpful for staff and students alike and to have a presence in the school and get to know staff and students is really a blessing”.
