On Saturday 28th February, Holsworthy LSG held a Nostalgic School Dinners fundraiser. We had a fantastic evening of nostalgic school dinners, school assembly songs and reminiscing together, all to raise funds for Connect.
The evening started with the register, with the rowdy members made themselves know from the beginning! There were a mix of primary school “bangers” such as “Shine Jesus Shine” and “Lord of the Dance” playing in the background, table talk discussion questions and table games on the tables and even a break time quiz. People really got into the spirit of the evening and two school ties were spotted. We also asked people to be table monitors to gather in the plates!

There was an impressive spread of food: old classics of shepherds pie, toad in the hole and homity pie, with a mix of vegetables plus baked beans and mash. Ruth even borrowed her mums vintage mash scoop for the occasion. There wasn’t a single over cooked, mushy grey pea to be seen!

For afters there we were spoiled for choice with some proper classic puddings: jam roly poly, chocolate pudding, rice pudding, apple and sultana suet pudding, jelly, plus more! They were served with an option of ice cream and custard: normal, pink and chocolate!

We had a brilliant team of cooks and dinner ladies, including one former school cook who brought some of the desserts she loved to cook. Plus a team of volunteers who set up, and washed up, and generally helped out.
A total of £380 was raised! Thank you everyone who came along and a special thank you to everyone who helped make the evening as big a success as it was.
